What GPA do you need for WSU Graduate School? ›

The Graduate School requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for admission, however there are occasional exceptions in extraordinary circumstances. There are also options such as NADC or the WSU Bridge Program for students with lower undergraduate GPAs.

2.0 minimum cumulative grade point average. Completion of Writing Proficiency and UCORE requirements and college requirements, if applicable (see below). Completion of requirements for major including a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA in the major (see relevant catalog section).

Your program may require you to have other types of official test scores (such as GRE, GMAT, etc.) sent directly to WSU. Test scores must be received directly from the agency administering the test.

Many grad programs call for a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA. However, some programs may admit you with a 2.5 or even 2.0 GPA. Online graduate programs with low GPA requirements allow you to continue your education even if you didn't do great in undergrad.

First Year Students

There is guaranteed admission for students with a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. If your cumulative high school GPA is below 3.0, we will review your application and determine if we need more information before making an admissions decision.

Under Academic Regulation 57 students may petition the university for exceptions to the academic calendar (e.g. withdrawal from a course after the deadline) OR petition for withdrawal from an individual course after having used the maximum number allowed.

41. An undergraduate student who has been reinstated after becoming deficient under Rule 38 or 39 will be on academic notice. The specific conditions of enrollment for students who are on academic notice will be determined by the interviewer or Review Board.

Average GPA: 3.5

With a GPA of 3.5, Washington State University requires you to be around average in your high school class. You'll need a mix of A's and B's, and very few C's. If you have a lower GPA, you can compensate with harder courses like AP or IB classes.

WSU admission is test free, so standardized test scores such as SAT or ACT are not required. If you are in the top 10 percent of your graduating class or have at least a 3.6 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, you are assured admission. A high school diploma is required, and a GED is accepted.

Most top-ranked graduate programs typically prefer a GPA of 3.5 or better. Exceptions to this rule occur, of course, but many students give up their quest to attend graduate school due to a low (3.0 or less) GPA.

In general, graduate schools look for a minimum 3.0 GPA, but programs admit applicants with lower GPAs, too. Grades aren't the only way grad schools measure applicants. You also submit letters of recommendation and college essays, among other materials that can help you stand out.
