Atlanta general manager Alex Anthopoulos held a media session before a game. He admitted he wouldn't usually do that unless the Braves are struggling. This is, of course, all relative. So Anthopoulos was available to discuss that disappointing reality. He says it's all about making the playoffs. That still looks promising for the Braves. But Lattimore says he's not seeking a trade and intends to prove he's the "No. 1" cornerback in the NFL. New Orleans' defensive backfield also includes veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu and fourth-year cornerback Paulson Adebo. They tied for the team lead with four interceptions each last season. The Capitals say the move allows them to boost their hockey operations department. The New York Giants have made a lot of changes heading into the 2024 season, but the one they're saying little about is their offensive play-calling. Coordinator Mike Kafka handled the job in coach Brian Daboll's first two seasons in New York. That may change. Daboll has done the job during the OTAs and the minicamp that ended Wednesday. The Giants had the NFL's 29th-ranked offense last season and an offensive line that allowed a team-record 85 sacks. Daboll called the plays in Buffalo before coming to the Giants.

West died on Wednesday at age 86, a day that his alma mater called "the day everyone in West Virginia has always dreaded."

The onus is now on his teammates to get the job done at the other end of the rink against Sergei Bobrovsky and the Florida Panthers. Edmonton has just one goal through two games and is 0 for 7 on the power play. A century ago, Cyril Walker bested Bobby Jones and many of golf's greatest players in the U.S. Open at Oakland Hills. It was the pinnacle of Walker's career, perhaps even his life. Because what followed was a downward spiral fueled by anger and alcohol, which ended in a New Jersey jail cell. The penniless former pro had sought refuge from the rain and cold, only to be found by a sergeant the next morning, dead of pneumonia. As the U.S. Open prepares to get underway Thursday at Pinehurst, it may be worth recalling a curious story of a most unexpected champion.

Williams says he expects to be ready for the start of the season and wants to get back to himself. Nick Dunlap had his spot secured at Pinehurst No. 2 for the U.S. Open last summer when he won the U.S. Amateur. But he's no longer an amateur. Dunlap had little choice but to turn pro after he won on the PGA Tour in January. It hasn't been the smoothest ride since that point. Dunlap failed to break par in four of his first five rounds as a pro, and he missed the cut at Riviera, the Players Championship and the Masters. But he is coming off his best payday to date at the Memorial, and he finally has some course experience on his side. He won the North & South Amateur at Pinehurst just last year.

The only certainty in the NBA draft used to be a college freshman at the top of it. From John Wall in 2010 to Paolo Banchero in 2022, 13 straight drafts began with a one-and-done player. That streak ended last year, when San Antonio selected Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 pick. Another Frenchman, Alexandre Sarr or Zaccharie Risacher, could be the top pick in the June 26 draft. If so, Reed Sheppard from Kentucky and Stephon Castle from national champion UConn could then follow as the best of the one-and-dones.
